Combat Auto Theft Program ( C.A.T. )

The Combat Auto Theft Program is a voluntary decal program that was designed to reduce vehicle thefts between the hours of l:00 am to 5:00 am.

HOW DOES C.A.T. WORK

*    The program is voluntary.

*    There is a $5.00 fee for each car that is enrolled.

*    The owner of the vehicle will be required to complete and sign an application that authorizes the police to stop the vehicle between the hours of lam to 5am.

*    The program should be explained to any other persons that are permitted to drive the vehicle.

*    Prior to the sale or transfer of the vehicle, the C.A.T. decal will be 
     taken off and the Combat Auto Theft Section notified at 862-7111.

*    The Combat Auto Theft Section should also be notified of any changes of tag numbers, addresses, authorized driver names, phone numbers, or other information changes on the application.

WHO SHOULD NOT PARTICIPATE

Those persons that are often out between the hours of 1 am to 5am, since they would be stopped frequently.

Call 862-7111 and leave your name, address, city, state, zip code, and your telephone number or write:

An application will be mailed to you.


AUTO THEFT PREVENTION TIPS  

*    Never leave keys in the vehicle

*    Always keep doors locked and windows rolled up.

*    Never leave items inside the vehicle so that they can be seen from the outside. Put them in the trunk.

*    Park in busy, well lit areas.

*    If anti-theft devices are installed, use them.

*    Keep copies of your vehicle's registration. If your vehicle is stolen, the police will need that information to make a report.

CARJACKING PREVENTION TIPS

*    Keep doors locked and windows rolled up.

*    Be aware when slowing or stopping for people approaching your car.

*    Never pull too close to the vehicle in front of you so that you can have an escape route if you need to drive around.

*    When possible, do not travel alone.

*    Park in busy, well lit areas.

*    Travel well lit and well traveled roads when possible.

*    If confronted, do not resist, give up your vehicle.
